Welcome to Sturgis 2000 picture gallery. I would like to share with you a little about my trip. First we stayed in Rapid City. I think this was a great place to stay. Centrally located, we traveled one day to the Bad Lands. It was about 87 miles out of town toward the east. Great riding and scenery, it brought back memories of many Indian movies I had seen. On another day we traveled Southwest to Mt. Rushmore. Not only was this an awesome sight to see first hand, but getting there was even better. Needles Highway and Iron Mountain Road are, in my eyes, some of the best riding you can do, on a motorcycle. Two consecutive 360 degree turns that travel over each other, on bridges. These twisting winding roads were amazing. Also along this journey was Custer's State Park, where we saw Bison (Buffalo) crossing the street, Antelopes out in the pasture and even a couple of Ass. My only regret was not having tried the Buffalo Burgers, I guess I'll have to go back. Northwest, out in Wyoming was Devils Tower. Another great adventure. Rt. 14a is a must when traveling out there. A very picturesque waterfall along the way is the location of many weddings. The highway out there is kind of flat and boring, but at 105 degrees, the 75mph breeze was much needed. 27 miles north is Sturgis. Just far enough away we where could get away. At least 3 concerts every night. Best evening entertainment was a toss up between the Full Throttle Saloon and Buffalo Chip Campgrounds. Each of these had top notch entertainers. Personally, I saw: Molly Hatchet (autographed guitar pick), Cher (gave away 3 motorcycles), Johnny Lang, Styx, a couple of wet t-shirt contest and more. Well enough said for now, maybe more later. One more note. I have some postcards that I will post at a later date. They are by far the best photos. check back in a few weeks. ( I need to retreive them from the people I sent them to and scan them) If you have any photos you would like to add, please send them. Contact info on the Homepage. |
